Giving Tuesday

"The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each others' burdens, easing other's loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas. "
~W. C. Jones

Following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday we now have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to reminding us of the spirit of the season of giving. Charities, churches and schools hold events to encouraging people to participate in Giving Tuesday, many through the website GivingTuesday.org. Organizations are encouraged to report how many people volunteer or give money. The campaign originated from Henry Timms, deputy executive director of the Jewish community center 92nd Street Y, and Kathy Calvin, CEO of the United Nations Foundation. The idea gained momentum for the 2012 holiday season.  On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will celebrate generosity by giving something more.

Partnering up with big charities like U.S. Fund for UNICEF, March of Dimes, the U.N. Foundation and companies like United Airlines and Eventbrite, and working with an augmented reality company an app was created that can be downloaded.  The CrowdRise Giving Tower is a collaborative effort to show the world’s philanthropic impact on #GivingTuesday. Every donation is a brick in the Tower. A giant virtual reality Giving Tower that shows the donations literally stacking up., an updated version of the old fundraising thermometer."

Download the app and point it at a dollar bill.
