Huntington Beach surf culture

We arrived at the Shorebreak in Huntintgon Beach on Sunday, Septmeber 29th, as the Surf City Surf Dog Competition was concluded with an awards ceremony at the Shorebreak Hotel. A reported 65 four-legged competitors took part, with 2,500 two-legged fans on hand for the spectacle. The three-day event kicked off Friday with a "yappy hour" and a "paw-abunga" costume contest.  By the time we arrived the dogs had finished competing, but some great photos online captured the action.

When we arrived dogs were gathered with their owners enjoying refreshments on the deck of the Shorebreaks's Zimzala restaurant.

The dog-friendly Shorebreak even offers menu selections for "mans best friend".

The doors of rooms are with different photos of folks
enjoying various activities in HB...we were wondering
whether our assignment to this room with the old guy
cycling on a large "tricycle" was intentional...we didn't
think we looked that old yet....

The rooms had a modern beach vibe

A relaxing spot to wait for valet parking to retrieve our rental car.

We noticed some interesting surfboard art on display at the Shorebreak...
and I decided some further research was in order...
